This spring, the Charleston Metro Chamber held focus groups to gauge members’ awareness of existing offerings, learn more about small business members’ specific needs and further align our scope of work, services and benefits to meet those needs.

Small businesses, which the Chamber defines as those with 50 or less employees, represent the largest base of Chamber membership. The focus groups reflected the size and industry diversity of this group of members.

The focus groups were moderated and facilitated by two independent practitioners who led each group through the same series of questions and topics. Participants reviewed the Chamber’s work and deliverables in the following areas:

  • Business Development and Entrepreneurship
  • Regional Advancement and Advocacy
  • Talent and Leadership
  • Member Relations and Development

Representatives from 66 member organizations participated, giving their time, feedback and input on existing and future offerings for small business members across multiple industries. Data was transcribed and analyzed, with conclusions resulting in numerous outcomes, offerings and added value for small business members. They include:

The Small Business Package

A collection of features and benefits to aid small businesses, to be released in July, which will include new opportunities to access knowledge, tap into the expertise of others, utilize data and bring more visibility to the small business member’s organization.

Enhanced Website Navigation and Tools

The Chamber’s website is being revised during the months of May through July to provide increased ease of use and navigation.

Membership Orientation

Chamber 101 and 102, provided for new and existing members, have been revised to make your new member pathway easy to navigate. A new member welcome kit is in development to provide digital access to orientation and on-boarding information.

Look for additional offerings for small business members on the website as we continue to use your input to provide the highest value for your membership investment. Our heartfelt thanks go to the companies who participated in this valuable project. Your input, while anonymous, will continue to be studied for future membership enhancements.
