Yesterday, the State Transportation Infrastructure Bank (STIB) approved the amended agreement to fund the completion of the Mark Clark Expressway, which was also approved by Charleston County Council last night.

We will, in fact, see the completion of the Mark Clark Expressway.

This tremendous victory will improve the quality of life for residents, provide a safe evacuation route and facilitate the region’s continued economic vitality.

Governor McMaster is owed a huge thank you for having the courage to step in and address the critical needs of the Lowcountry. His executive leadership brought all the parties back to the table to find a solution to move this project forward.

Elected leaders on Charleston County Council persevered to make this important project a reality. We particularly thank Council Chairman Elliott Summey and Councilman Brantley Moody who lead negotiation efforts, and 2017-18 Council Chairman Vic Rawl. Infrastructure Bank Board Member Chip Limehouse helped keep this project alive for years and behind the scenes work from Sen. Sandy Senn, Rep. Peter McCoy and Rep. Leon Stavrinakis was essential. This success was a team effort and many elected leaders region wide played vital roles. Thank you to every official who supported 526 completion with their voice or vote.

Thank you to everyone who championed this project over the years. Your engagement was critical to the process. Your willingness to share your voice and advocate on behalf of our region’s critical needs had an undeniable impact.

Yesterday’s win is a major step toward improving our traffic challenges. Completing the Mark Clark Expressway will help residents get to and from work safely and more efficiently.
