Wednesday night, the Charleston Metro Chamber was named Chamber of the Year. Perhaps you saw a picture or two on social media that evening?

Winning this distinction is an in-depth process that begins with qualification based on financial performance. That’s followed by a 20-page written application to determine finalists and finally an hour-long panel interview to distinguish the winner. The whole process is a 360° review of the organization conducted by leaders from similar chambers from across the country.

Obviously, the entire Chamber team is beaming with pride. It’s a huge honor to be named by your peers as the best in the nation.

You should be beaming with pride too. A chamber of commerce is only as influential as its members, and y’all are an impressive bunch.

Everyone who has written a letter, sent an email or placed a phone call to an elected official, thank you. Everyone who serves on a committee that studies issues and develops policy positions, thank you. Everyone who invited us to speak to an employee or community group about infrastructure investment or housing attainability, thank you. Everyone who stays informed about priority issues and shares information with friends and neighbors, thank you. Everyone who carries the Chamber PAC endorsement list to the polls on election day, thank you.

Without your engagement, your voice and your investment, we couldn’t even hope to qualify for Chamber of the Year honors. Take pride in the Charleston Metro Chamber being named the best chamber in the country. It’s a team trophy and you’re a critical player on the team.
