Dr. Eugenio J Alemán, Ph.D presents at WTCC International Trade Lunch

Dr. Eugenio J Alemán, Ph.D will be presenting at our upcoming WTCC International Trade Lunch, where he will help us understand what is happening in our region and beyond to foster global imports and exports.  In addition, the WTCC will honor two companies in our region that exhibit excellence in global trade with the U.S. Commercial Service’s Export Achievement Certificate.  Learn more about Dr. Alemán and the extensive experience he brings with him.

Dr. Eugenio J. Alemán, Ph.D. has served as a Director and Senior Economist at Wells Fargo Securities, LLC, Research Division since 2005. He forecasts national, regional and international economic trends at the firm.


His primary focus is the United States, including the United States consumer and interest rates. Dr. Alemán is also an expert on Latin American economics with special interest in the economies of Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Within that area, his specialties include the economies of border towns that trade with Mexico and the Maquiladora manufacturing sector along the U.S.-Mexican border.

He has been an Adjunct Professor of Economics at Drexel University in Philadelphia since 1999 and currently teaches online economics courses for the university. Dr. Alemán also teaches at Queens University of Charlotte. Prior to this, he served as the Regional Managing Director of the Latin America Service at IHS Global Insight, Inc. from 1998 to 2005. Dr. Alemán coordinated the analysis and forecasts of the economists and analysts under his supervision and was responsible for the countries covered by the service. He was in charge of the analysis and forecast for Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Brazil. He made presentations on the Latin American region at Global Insight’s conferences, clients’ sites, and several institutions in the United States.

Before that, he served at Shell Argentina as the Manager of macroeconomics and energy planning. While at the firm, Dr. Alemán created the country planning scenarios and worked on special projects related to firm’s business operations. Earlier, he worked as a Researcher for Argentina’s Foreign Ministry under the United Nations Development Program and at the Universidad Del Salvador. From 1996 until 1998, he worked for the petroleum industry. From 1995-1996, Dr. Alemán served as a Professor of Economics and Director of the M.B.A. program at the Inter-American University. From 1985 to 1990, he served as the General Manager of a restaurant in Puerto Rico.

His commentaries have appeared in national publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post, and USA Today, as well as many national and international media outlets including Associated Press, Reuters, and Bloomberg News. He has also made appearances on CNBC and in U.S. Hispanic media outlets.

Dr. Alemán holds a Ph.D. He earned an M.B.A. with a concentration in Marketing from the Inter-American University in Puerto Rico, an M.A. and a Doctorate in Economics with an emphasis in Economic Development and International Trade and Finance from Florida International University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the Universidad Del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
