The Lowcountry Heart Walk is a family-friendly fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Participants build teams of walkers who raise funds on behalf of their workplace or a loved one who suffered from heart disease or the effects of a stroke. The Executive Leadership Team has a goal of raising $1 million for the American Heart Association.

At the walk, participants can enjoy kids’ activities, fitness demonstrations, health screenings, and heart-healthy snacks. The American Heart Association will recognize heart disease and stroke survivors, and walkers can make tributes to loved ones.

Participants can enjoy a 1-mile route called the MUSC Miracle Mile or a 3-mile walk around beautiful North Charleston. Michael Bennett of Bennett Hospitality serves as the 2017 Chairman of the Lowcountry Heart Walk. Life is Why is locally sponsored by MUSC, and Healthy For Good is locally sponsored by the InterTech Group and Bennett Hospitality.

When:

Saturday, September 30, 2017

Activities begin 8:00 a.m.

Walk kicks off at 9:00 a.m.

Where:

Riverfront Park
1001 Everglades Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406

Why:

Heart disease is the leading cause of death of South Carolinians and stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability.

The Heart Walk raises awareness that heart disease and stroke are largely preventable through a healthy diet and exercise.  For every hour of brisk walking, life expectancy may increase for some adults by two hours.

Research has shown walking to be the single most effective form of exercise to achieve ideal cardiovascular health. Walking 30 minutes a day can improve critical numbers like weight, blood pressure and cholesterol.

Interview Ops:

Footage and photo opportunity of Lowcountry area residents walking for heart disease and stroke research and educational programs and taking a step in the right direction for their health!

Media can speak with representatives from the American Heart Association and local survivors. To set up an interview ahead of the walk, please contact Jennifer Waites at Jennifer.Waites@heart.org or 843-480-4907. Learn more about the Lowcountry Heart Walk at www.lowcountryscheartwalk.org
