Charleston Metro Chamber Receives Grant from TRUIST to Support Housing Attainability

Housing attainability continues to be a critical concern for our region’s business community, especially given the current struggle to find and retain talent is only heightened by the rising cost of housing.

This week, TRUIST Foundation presented the Charleston Chamber Foundation, through the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, a $200,000 grant to support the Chamber’s efforts to address our region’s housing crisis.

“This giant gap we have in attainable housing impacts businesses ability to hire quality talent because talent simply cannot afford to live here,” said Mark Lattanzio, Market President with TRUIST. “A lack of housing stock along the entire spectrum is the top business and community concern and one that will require collaboration, creativity and resourcefulness.”

Housing attainability has been a top issue for the Charleston Metro Chamber for many years. Last year, the Chamber hosted a series of housing vision labs, resulting in the Chamber hiring Craig Logan as the Housing Executive Fellow to lead their housing efforts and form a Regional Housing Coalition.

The Regional Housing Coalition is the first of its kind in the Charleston region and brings together business and community leaders to unify the region’s efforts to provide attainable housing to all people regardless of neighborhood or individual characteristics. This week, over 80 community members, elected officials and business leaders attended the inaugural Regional Housing Coalition meeting.

“What an amazing turn out for our first Regional Housing coalition meeting,” said Craig Logan, Charleston Metro Chamber Housing Executive Fellow. “The diversity in the room is reflective of the inclusiveness that the Regional Housing Coalition looks to promote; it is a place for all, regardless of neighborhood or individual characteristics. I am excited to begin this work with a community who is passionate about housing attainability for all.”

The Regional Housing Coalition is open to all who share interests in creating solutions for the housing crisis in our region. If you are interested in being a part of this dedicated group of individuals, click here

“Our housing crisis is more than just people being unable to afford a house. It trickles down to more cars on the road for longer periods of time because workers must drive further to housing they can afford. It impacts quality of life as many have to find ways to supplement their income, which can take away from the time spent with the people that matter most to you,” said Mark Lattanzio. “TRUIST is proud to be a part of the effort to drive solutions in the pursuit of significantly increasing attainable housing supply for all.”
