The Advocates: Positive Movements Forward with ZLDR

We are one step closer to passing the Zoning and Land Development Regulations (ZLDR) in Charleston County thanks to our members! In a previous Advocates, we talked about the extensive history behind the ZLDR amendments and the recommendations made by the Housing Task Force.

Today, we want to thank all of the Chamber members as well as members of the Regional Housing Coalition that wrote letters to Council. You can read a copy of the Chamber’s letter to Council here.

During the ZLDR public hearing on Tuesday night, there were a handful of speakers, including the Chamber, who all spoke in support of the ZLDR amendments. You can access the presentation from the public hearing here.

The ZLDR amendments will head to the Planning and Public Works Committee on September 23 and will then go to full council for first reading upon approval from the Planning and Public Works Committee. Any members interested in learning more are encouraged to reach out to our government relations team.

We are also seeking your input on your company’s early reaction to the White House’ newly released COVID-19 Action Plan. To comply with the executive order included in this plan, the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced they are developing a rule that will require all employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require any workers who remain unvaccinated to produce a negative test result at least weekly before coming to work. Please respond to this 3-minute survey. Your responses will be confidential and we will use the aggregated survey results to inform our lobbying and member education efforts on this issue. Thank you again for your input.
