Business Advocacy Committee
The Business Advocacy Committee recommends policy positions to the Chamber’s Board and Executive Committee. In addition, the Business Advocacy Committee sets the legislative priorities for the local, state and federal agendas each year. Committee members are invited to participate. The Chair of Business Advocacy is appointed by the Chamber Board Chair each year.
The Advocates Network
Open to all Chamber members, the Advocates is a rapid response group mobilized to communicate with elected officials at all levels of government on critical legislative and local issues. Members are kept up-to-date through weekly emails covering advocacy issues. Join The Advocates Network
Career Academy Regional Advisory Boards
The Career Academy Regional Advisory Boards meet three times per year at the All Academy meetings at the Chamber. In-between these meetings, Academy Partners meet at individual schools and work on specific activities around each area. The members are business leaders who commit to meet with teachers and district leaders for one year. The goal is to bring real-world relevance to our Career Academies in Business Management, Computer Science & IT, Construction & Trades, Engineering, Hospitality, Health Professions and Manufacturing. Members are invited to participate.
Charleston Young Professionals Steering Committee
The Charleston Young Professionals Steering Committee helps identify programs, events, and services for young professionals in the areas of professional development, community engagement, and connections. Steering Committee members also serve as CYP champions within their respective organizations and the community at large. Members are invited to participate.
CMCC Political Action Committee
The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (CMCC PAC) is an autonomous organization that serves as the political action arm of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. The PAC Board oversees the activities of the PAC including elections, the candidate endorsement process and fundraising activities. Members are invited to participate.
Small highly engaged member group working to change public attitudes about growth and development in the region. Open to any Chamber member willing to commit to frequent public interaction with elected officials to help advance regional advocacy efforts. Join Champion Advocates.
Developers Council Steering Committee
The Developers Council Steering Committee is focused on the hurdles that exist for residential and commercial developers in the region. The goal is to develop best practices within local government that can be shared with local elected officials in each municipality. Members are invited to participate.
Economic Outlook Board
The Economic Outlook Board reviews the economic forecast produced by the Center for Business Research and College of Charleston and adds the “real-time, real-knowledge” insight into the actual performance of the local economy. Each member of the Board represents a different sector of the economy. Members are invited to participate. This group meets annually.
The Environmental Committee is focused on current and proposed environmental regulations and legislation, including their impact on local industry. The Committee recommends specific policy/legislative positions on environmental regulation to the Chamber’s Business Advocacy Committee as part of shaping its overall advocacy. The Committee is open to Chamber members.
The Finance Committee consists of the Chairman, Chairman-elect, Finance Committee Chairman, the President, and CEO and any others designated by the Chairman and President and CEO. Their duties include examining the financial condition of the Chamber each month, as well as the progress made towards yearly budget target requirements. The Finance Committee approves major expenditures, sets the Chamber’s financial and investment policies as well as they recommend and submit the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for approval.
Honors Awards Committee
The Honors Awards Committee is comprised of Chamber members who have been previous Honors winners or who have made significant contributions to the business community at large. This committee reviews all business award nominations and selects all finalists and winners in each category.
Infrastructure Vision Committee
The purpose of the Committee is to help us prioritize the short and long-term infrastructure needs of our region. These priorities are the platform for the Chamber’s Business Advocacy agenda going forward. Priorities are updated on an annual basis. The Committee also works to identify the funding and other challenges for moving each of the priority projects forward. Members are invited to participate.
Human Resources Professionals Network
Comprised of HR professionals from across the region, meetings are held every other month in a roundtable discussion format to keep up-to-date on labor market trends and issues. Topics include workforce trends, legislative and legal challenges, labor climate (organizing activity and labor relations challenges), third-party wage and benefits data availability, training, internship programs, recruiting (including sharing of open positions) and risk management (workers compensation, safety, and general liability).
Leadership Charleston Steering Committee
The Leadership Charleston Steering Committee is comprised of graduates of the Leadership Charleston program. The Steering Committee screens and selects applicants and plans each of the monthly sessions. Members are invited to participate.
Local Area Steering Councils
The Local Area Steering Councils are comprised of business leaders representing the community, member interests and businesses of all sizes in each local area. The purpose of the Local Area Steering Councils is to enhance the opportunityto advance the region through informational programs and connections that provide members access to resources where it matters most to them. Each Local Area Steering Council (Central, East, North, and West) helps identify programs and connection events for members interested in igniting local contacts and deepening area-specific business relationships. Members will be able to access relevant and localized member programming within a 15 to 30-minute drive of their location. Members are invited to participate.
Military Policy Council
The mission of the Military Policy Council is to develop and implement an overall strategy to expand military and homeland defense facilities and operations in the Charleston region. Members are invited to participate.
The Nominating Committee consist of the Board officers, the President and CEO and (4) additional Board members selected by the Chairman-elect. It is the duty of the Nominating Committee to nominate members for election and to present the Board of Directors with a final slate of nominees for the Board, Board Officers and the Executive Committee for approval for the coming fiscal year.
One Region Executive Committee
The One Region Executive Committee serves as the independent steering and oversight organization for implementation of the One Region Strategy, the Charleston Metro Area’s strategy for building global competitiveness. The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce is a lead partner of the One Region Initiative and annually appoints several members to the Executive Committee.
This group of leaders from our targeted industries, K-12, higher education, civic and philanthropic communities meet quarterly to help guide our pipeline efforts to present a skilled and career-ready workforce for our region’s employers. Each meeting contains time for a specific action focus area and enhanced data dives in specific industries at each meeting.
