The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (Chamber PAC) is pleased to announce its endorsement of Joe McKeown, Pastor Kylon Middleton and Brantley Moody for election to Charleston County Council.

To be considered for the endorsement, candidates for open seats completed a written questionnaire and participated in an interview with Chamber PAC members. The process revealed candidates’ perspective on critical issues facing Charleston County and the metro region including: housing attainability, infrastructure investment, regional planning, Lowcountry Rapid Transit, flooding and the completion of the Mark Clark Expressway.

“All of the candidates endorsed by the Chamber PAC support a positive business climate and are aligned with the Chamber’s pillar priorities: mobility, livability and business climate,” said David Hand, Chairman of the Chamber PAC. “All understand the connection between local decisions and the continued economic prosperity of the larger region.”

In addition to alignment with the Chamber’s priorities, each candidate was endorsed based on their individual experience and vision.

Joe McKeown is running to represent District 3 and currently serves as Executive Director for U.S. Senator Tim Scott. McKeown previously served on the Charleston County Council (2006-2011), the Mount Pleasant Town Council and the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission. He supports efforts to relieve traffic congestion like the Mark Clark Expressway Extension, the Lowcountry Rapid Transit and the Glenn McConnell Parkway widening and also is a proponent for attainable housing initiatives like the Housing Trust Fund Referendum.

Pastor Kylon Middleton serves as Mount Zion AME Church’s Senior Pastor and is running to represent District 6. He is a project leader for the Charleston Illumination Project, which seeks to strengthen the relationship between citizens and law enforcement. He also supports significant infrastructure projects and attainable housing initiatives. Pastor Middleton would make infrastructure improvements for flooding relief a priority.

Brantley Moody was first elected in 2016 and this year is running for re-election to represent District 7. Moody is a proponent of infrastructure improvements that will help the region fight traffic congestion, like the Mark Clark Expressway Extensions, the Ashley River Bike-Pedestrian Bridge and neighborhood road paving. Moody hopes to rescue the troubled recycling center and supports flood mitigation efforts throughout the region.

Note: Henry Darby, the current Fourth District Councilman, is running unopposed for a fifth term.

All of the candidates running for County Council are passionate about serving the public. The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee believes these three endorsed candidates will consistently make decisions that promote enhanced mobility, livability and a strong business climate.
