Book of the Month for March

March’s Book of the Month was selected by Kenya Dunn, the Chamber’s DE&I Executive Fellow and Founder & CEO of the Power-Filled Woman.

“In the spirit of Women’s History Month, this is a story written by Shirley Chisholm herself. She explains her experience as a woman of color on her rise to becoming the first African American Congresswoman and the first woman and first African American to make a bid for presidency. What I like most about this book is Shirley’s commitment to being her authentic self in every space. The one word that best describes what I gleaned from her story is “Daring.” Page after page, Shirley lets you underneath the veil of her experience as a woman and a black person in America, yet she was determined not to let the many attempts to intimidate and silence her distract her from her purpose. “
