Government Relations Update with Mayor Haynie

Join us on May 6 for a Government Relations Update with Mayor Haynie!

Mount Pleasant has been experiencing tremendous growth. Just last month, the Town recruited 149 new businesses. This is similar to the numbers from prior years despite COVID-19. The Town is starting to see the return of tourism with hotel occupancy numbers up about 20% from the previous month.

For new businesses looking to locate or expand in Mount Pleasant, be sure to check out the Economic Development Incentives Grant Program. Incentives include reimbursement of impact fees, building permit fees, plan review fees and business license taxes. The program was approved by Town Council in 2011 and has awarded about $400,000 in economic incentives to a dozen companies since.

The Town of Mount Pleasant is already creating meaningful partnerships to solve regional problems. Town Council and the nonprofit, Housing For All Mount Pleasant, will be celebrating a groundbreaking ceremony on May 5 for Gregorie Ferry Town. These workforce housing units are the first of their kind since Town Council formed and provided seed money for HRAMP.

Mayor Haynie will talk about the Town’s plans to deal with anticipated future growth as well as more ways for the business community and Mount Pleasant to work in partnership. The Mayor will also touch on topics like attainable housing, Town finances and projects to enhance workforce development in the region.

The Government Relations update on May 6 begins at 4pm and will be followed by a reception on our third floor balcony. Business leaders are encouraged to come with questions about the topics most important to their industry. It is a rare opportunity to be able to speak directly with your local elected officials. Do not miss your chance, register today!
