MLV allows leaders to learn from Richmond’s Progress

Thirty-six of our region’s business leaders boarded a plane on May 12, launching them into an exploration of Richmond, VA. For three days, the travelers were immersed in Richmond’s progress and had the opportunity to learn more about their efforts in infrastructure, innovation, biotechnology and more. The Metro Leadership Visit provides a unique experience for business leaders to learn, collaborate and form relationships, bringing back valuable insight to help steer the future of the Charleston metro.

Beginning with a stop in Washington, D.C., to meet with members of our State Delegation and staff on Capitol Hill, the traveler’s on the Metro Leadership Visit had a full itinerary. After arriving in Richmond, travelers were given an overview of Rocketts Landing Mixed Use Development, followed by a tour of Stone Brewery.

The second day of the visit, a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond was followed by presentations on the Capital Regional Collaborative and the Bus Rapid Transit/Transportation system. Business Leaders in Richmond gave attendees presentations on the Virginia BioTechnology Park, Creativity and Innovation and entrepreneurism in Richmond.

MWV, which is headquartered in Richmond, welcomed travelers for a reception, where they were introduced to John Luke, Donna Cox and Ned Masse of MWV.

Participants returned to Charleston energized by the ideas and experiences they had while on the Metro Leadership Visit, ready to take their new-found knowledge and apply it to issues facing the Charleston Region today.
