Federal Town Hall with Congresswoman Nancy Mace

It was clear hearing from Congresswoman Nancy Mace that, despite a tumultuous start to her time in the House of Representatives, she is passionate about the lowcountry and her role as its representative.

She spent a few moments recounting her experience of the events that took place at the Capitol on January 6 and how they have shaped her as a legislator. “Crisis can be a defining moment,” Mace said. She noted the importance of restoring trust and minimizing division in D.C. in order to move forward so that all legislators can do their jobs.

Regarding the stimulus package, Mace spoke about her belief about the importance of paring it down to the necessities – there are parts of it, like the $15 minimum wage mandate, that have nothing to do with the pandemic. Focus on targeted relief to the people and businesses that have been negatively impacted.

Congresswoman Mace was happy to report that she was appointed to her top three House committees: the House Transportation and Infrastructure, Oversight and Reform and Veterans’ Affairs Committees. She anticipates an infrastructure bill, but noted that it’s one thing to put a transportation and infrastructure package together, but it’s another thing altogether to pay for it. She also discussed that as part of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, she will focus on making it easier for veterans to navigate the VA and have access to higher quality of care more efficiently.

What can business leaders do to support her work in DC? Mace hopes to build relationships and an open line of communication between her office and constituents/business community. It’s important for the community to bring concerns and ideas to her attention – she stated she needs to know what they challenges are in order to be the most helpful in D.C.
