Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination against individuals because of their “race, color, religion, sex, or national origin,” also prohibits discrimination based on an individual’s sexual orientation and transgender status.

The Supreme Court recently ruled to include LGBTQ workers as a protected group under the Title VII employment act.
