Recently the Charleston Metro Chamber released a list of our region’s 22 most pressing infrastructure needs.
There are a number of familiar projects in this third update to our Infrastructure Priorities paper, specifically completion of the Mark Clark Expressway and extension of the Glenn McConnell Parkway. There are also some new items like investment in a smart traffic management system. These priorities, which span all three counties in our region, were studied and selected by the Chamber’s Infrastructure Visioning Task Force.
Infrastructure means more than roads, and the paper highlights specific freight, transit and water management needs. But at this stage in the region’s development, road capacity is our dominant need. 13 of the paper’s 22 projects are either new road or improvements to existing roads.
Our updated Infrastructure Priorities paper comes out just as our partners at the BCD-COG launch into their 2040 long range transportation planning effort. More info about that effort, including a critical transportation needs survey, at www.chats2040.com
We’ll use this document to advocate for our biggest infrastructure needs across the region. We hope you’ll use it the same way.
