That’s an easy one. It’s the single best way to graduate from high school and jump right into a career.

Of course, the path isn’t easy. Students involved in the Youth Apprentice Program take their normal high school programs and travel to Trident Technical College two to three days per week where they’re enrolled in dual credit classes in a specific area. They also apprentice at an area company for about 10 hours per week. During the summer between the junior and senior year, the students work full-time as paid apprentices.

At the end of the two-year program, students will have earned a high school diploma, certification in a specific field from Trident Tech, credentialing from the U.S. Department of Labor, and two years of paid work experience.

For the companies, it’s an opportunity to hire qualified employees right here in their backyard, saving substantial amounts of money on hiring and moving costs. It’s an opportunity to give a potential employee a trial run. This not only increases their chances of hiring someone that fits the culture, but also ensures that person will contribute immediately.
