ACCLAIMED NEW ORLEANS BRUNCH SPOT NOW OPEN IN CHARLESTON

Brunch lovers rejoice—all-day brunch restaurant Ruby Sunshine is now open in Charleston’s historic downtown. Located at 171 E Bay Street, Ruby Sunshine offers Big Easy twists on Southern brunch classics, including benedicts, pancakes and French Toast, as well as eye-opening cocktails.

The restaurant is the first of two Ruby Sunshine locations to open in Charleston. Ruby Sunshine is the latest concept from Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group, the hospitality group behind acclaimed New Orleans-based eatery Ruby Slipper Café. The second Charleston restaurant location, opening in 2022, will be located on Savannah Highway in West Ashley’s Avondale neighborhood.

“With Charleston being recognized as one of the top dining destinations in the Southeast, we could not be more excited to introduce the historic city to our New Orleans flair,” says Peter Gaudreau, CEO of Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group. “We hope Ruby Sunshine becomes a place for the locals to drop in regularly and for visitors to uncover as a delicious stop throughout their stay in the Lowcountry.”

Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, the 5,295 square-foot restaurant offers a lively and inviting atmosphere for families, residents, area professionals and visitors to enjoy.  The restaurant features indoor seating for approximately 170 guests, in addition to a vibrant outdoor enclosed patio area for up to 30 guests. The restaurant upholds the charm and inviting atmosphere that the previous concept, Blossom, maintained over the past two decades.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Inspired by the powerful sense of homecoming they felt when they returned to New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina, Jennifer and Erich Weishaupt opened the original Ruby Slipper Café to help draw people back to their Mid-City New Orleans neighborhood. Born from that cozy storefront in 2008, Ruby Slipper Restaurant Group has grown to operate 11 Ruby Slipper Café locations across the Gulf region and nine Ruby Sunshine locations across the Southeast.

BREAKFAST STAPLES WITH A BIG EASY TWIST

Guests can expect all-day brunch and eye-opening cocktails served at Ruby Sunshine seven days a week. The menu will echo the offerings at Ruby Slipper Café, featuring award-winning New Orleans twists on Southern breakfast staples like BBQ Shrimp & Grits, Eggs Cochon Benedict and Bananas Foster Pain Perdu, as well as morning cocktails like a Brandy Milk Punch, Morning Margarita, Mimosas and, of course, their award-winning Bacon Bloody Marys. Ruby Sunshine incorporates fresh and local ingredients in its seasonally inspired menu whenever possible and looks forward to partnering with local farmers and purveyors in South Carolina for its Charleston location.

RUBY SUNSHINE SUPPORTS LOCAL NON-PROFIT PARTNER

In honor of  the grand opening and in celebration of National Giving Month – recognized in December each year – Ruby Sunshine recently donated $4,720 from funds raised at the restaurant’s preview events to local non-profit partner Lowcountry Food Bank, an organization which strives to fight hunger throughout 10 coastal counties of South Carolina. Ruby Sunshine will continue to lead fundraising efforts by donating $1 to the Lowcountry Food Bank for every order of the wintertime bennie special, Hot Honey Ham & Greens Benedict.
