The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Elizabeth Burwell as the 2025 Board Chair. A Charleston native with over 20 years of experience in financial services, Elizabeth has been an influential leader both in her professional career and her community involvement. As the new Chair, Elizabeth will focus on driving the Chamber’s mission forward, particularly through the Chamber’s People First initiative, which is focused on developing long-range economic mobility and quality of life solutions to ensure a vibrant region with a healthy and prosperous workforce paired with unmatched livability.
“I am honored to take on this leadership role with the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, an organization I’ve been fortunate to serve in many capacities over the years,” said Elizabeth Burwell. “The Chamber plays a vital role in supporting our region’s business community. I look forward to working alongside Kevin Sheilley, our new President and CEO, our Board of Directors and talented staff to continue building upon the Chamber’s successes and address the critical challenges facing our community.”
With two decades of financial services experience, Burwell brings a wealth of commercial banking and management expertise to the role. She currently serves as Team Leader and Senior Vice President for Southern First Bank, providing her unique insight into the needs of local businesses. Elizabeth is also the Treasurer for the Porter-Gaud School Board of Trustees and the Kiawah Cares Foundation, and she is a Past President of the Junior League of Charleston.
Elizabeth’s leadership has been recognized on several fronts, including being named a recipient of the Charleston Metro Chamber’s One to Watch Award and among Charleston Business Magazine’s 50 Most Influential in 2021. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Elizabeth and her husband are owners of Cherry Point Seafood, a local business that supplies fresh, locally caught seafood to area restaurants and grocery stores.
The Chamber will also soon welcome Kevin Sheilley as the new President and CEO, who brings extensive experience in community advancement and a strategic vision. Together, Elizabeth and Kevin will continue to position the Charleston Metro Chamber as a catalyst for advancement, innovation and prosperity in the Charleston region.
Elizabeth’s focus for the year ahead will be on the Chamber’s People First initiative, centered around the pillars of attainable housing, future-ready education, multi-faceted regional transit and affordable, high-quality childcare. Whether through fostering entrepreneurship, supporting local businesses or advocating for policies that improve quality of life, Elizabeth believes that a strong, people-focused economy is the key to a successful future for the Charleston region.
When she’s not in the office, Elizabeth enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, participating in activities such as golf, hunting and fishing. Elizabeth and her husband have three sons and are deeply committed to the Lowcountry’s growth and sustainability.
