As part of Leadership Charleston Class of 2023, our small group is taking on a volunteer project and are proud to be supporting Reading Partners SC.
We are volunteering and raising funds to install and fill Little Free Library book-sharing boxes in low-income communities in Charleston. The book-sharing boxes will increase access to free books in areas where reading materials may be scarce.
Our group was concerned with the impact which COVID had on low-income students in our community and providing more access to books is a research-backed way to bridging the achievement gap suffered by low-income students. In addition, as part of the Read In Color initiative, the boxes will be filled with new, high-quality books featuring diverse characters and stories that represent local communities.
Reading Partners is a member of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and a national nonprofit, that mobilizes communities to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade.
The local chapter of Reading Partners is celebrating their 10th year. To help celebrate and support the development of children in our area, please help us support a worthy, local nonprofit chapter and increase access to reading materials for low-income children!
As our group is currently in our fundraising phase of the project. We are looking to raise funds to pay for the cost of adding new Little Free Library boxes around the Charleston Metro Area.
Next month, we are excited to host an event where we will invite a few local Boy Scout Troops to help build the boxes with us!
Contributions can be made through monetary donation and/or purchased books that will be used to fill these Little Free Library boxes.
Any and every donation or book purchase will be greatly appreciated and will make a difference!

Reading Partners has also partnered with Firefly Distillery with a Light up Literacynight on May 18th to celebrate their 10 years in Charleston. Our group will be in attendance celebrating and supporting the cause! We encourage other Chamber members to come out and celebrate with us.
