Meet 2021 CYP Steering Committee Member, Lauren Ellis

My name is Lauren Ellis. I am driven to join people, ideas, and inspirations together to make our world a better place. As a marketing professional and greater Charleston area advocate, I am extremely passionate about being involved and making a difference in the Charleston community.

My love for the area derives from the fact that I was born and raised in Mount Pleasant. I have watched the Tri-County area grow and blossom into what it is today. My admiration for the Lowcountry is rooted so deep that after I graduated with my undergraduate degree from Furman University in Greenville, I couldn’t stay away from the region any longer. In 2018, I moved back to the area to start my professional career.

In November of 2020, I joined the Marketing Team at Sonepar USA, a member of the world’s largest privately-held electrical distributor. In just 9 months I have learned how to create email graphics in Adobe Photoshop and incorporating snippets of code into my everyday working routine. That being said, I am consistently feeling inspired and challenged by my peers. In my current role as a Marketing Coordinator, I assist the digital marketing team with email marketing, customer data maintenance, email analytics, and project coordination of digital programs. Even though I started my career with the company during an odd time amidst the unknowns of the pandemic, I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my role with Sonepar USA so far. Before working with Sonepar, I was the Tourism & Marketing Assistant for the City of North Charleston in the Office of the Mayor for two and a half years. This position allowed me to discover my passion for tourism, community development, marketing, politics, and most importantly, service.

During my time with the city, I was eager to find an organization where I could get involved in the community and make difference. After a Google search, I came across the Charleston Young Professionals on the Chamber of Commerce website and became eager to get engaged. After attending YP 101 and starting to frequently attend more events, I knew I found the right organization that aligned with my values. In January of 2020, I applied and was accepted to join the Charleston Young Professionals Steering Committee to make more of an impact. In 2021, we began to focus on 3 core areas: policy, professional development, and service. Because of my interest in service to the region and state, I became affiliated with the policy pillar.  Some of my favorite events that the organization has put on include the Economic Impact of the Film Industry, Mentorship Roundtable, and the Mayor’s Panel.

Today, I look back, and I am so thankful that I pushed myself to get out of my comfort zone and attend the YP 101 back in 2018. Over the past 3 years of my participation with CYP, I have expanded my network, gained confidence, cultivated lasting friendships with like-minded professionals, and have expanded my knowledge in business, leadership, and government relations.

I am driven by the other young leaders in this organization and community. Getting involved with CYP was one of the best decisions I have made! If you are looking for a way to get involved, network, and learn, CYP is the organization for you. The Chamber of Commerce and CYP will inspire and keep you motivated to reach your personal, professional, and community goals. If you have any questions and if I can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to seeing you soon at one of our upcoming events!
