I am a Charleston native, a graduate of both Clemson and USC (shocking I know!), and a passionate health and wellness advocate. I love living in the lowcountry and working as the Health Programs Manager at Trident United Way (TUW). My hobbies include cooking, staying active (yoga, running, kayaking, biking), playing board games, and spending time with my family. I believe strongly that everyone in our community should have access to nutritious food, safe parks, clean air, and affordable healthcare. I want to help shape our environment so the healthiest choice is the easiest one. In my free time you can find me listening to live music, playing volleyball, walking my dog, or relaxing at the beach!
In my role at TUW, I coordinate the Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas initiative, which builds partnerships and provides funding for community health programs. Examples include: school gardens, diabetes prevention programs, employee wellness initiatives, vaccine clinics, community cooking classes, and much more! Outside of the CYP steering committee, I also volunteer on Mayor Tecklenburg’s Health and Wellness Advisory Committee, I’m a board member for the Shifa Clinic (a free health clinic in Mt. Pleasant), and I lead the Nutrition section of the South Carolina Public Health Association.
CYP is a great program that provides a much-needed opportunity for young professionals in the Charleston area to connect with one another and get incredible professional development opportunities that you really can’t find anywhere else. Charleston is such a hub for so many industries and it’s amazing how many of us rely on networking to be successful. Plus so many young professionals are starting their careers in Charleston and it’s important to have a safe place to ask questions like: “How do I ask for a raise?” or “How do I get connected with local boards to volunteer on?”. I have met some great folks through CYP that I still connect with professionally and have become friends outside of work too!
If you are a young professional that’s new to the Charleston area looking to get plugged in to CYP, please don’t be afraid to reach out! I’m always happy to grab coffee and point you in the right direction.
