Charleston County Council approved the creation of the Housing Steering Committee. Applications are open until March 3 to fill the 13 vacancies; and candidates must reside in Charleston County. Members will be appointed by County Council and tasked with providing insight and expertise on housing needs, possible strategies and funding recommendations. In addition, members will have the opportunity to provide feedback on presentations made by Charleston County’s Housing Consultant.

The board will consist of:

  • One representative from the Housing Development Industry
  • One representative from the Housing Finance Industry
  • One representative from Housing Finance and/or Housing Development Industry
  • Two representatives from the Community Development Industry
  • One representative from the Property Management Industry
  • One representative from the Social Services Industry
  • One representative from the Community Organizing Industry
  • One representative from the Homeless Services Industry
  • One representative from the Policy & Advocacy Industry
  • One representative from the Education/School District Industry
  • One representative from the Workforce Development Industry
  • One representative from the Transportation Industry

A representative from Chamber staff will be applying for a position, but we encourage others in the business community to consider serving on this important board. Please visit the following link to apply.

To prepare for opportunities such as this, the Chamber, in partnership with the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors (CTAR) and the Charleston Home Builders Association (CHBA), will be launching the Civic Leaders Academy in April to train business leaders to serve in elected and appointed positions. We recognize the important role these positions play in ensuring a prosperous business environment and look forward to training business leaders to serve their community.
