On April 4, the Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee, in collaboration with the US Coast Guard, hosted a dynamic half-day event filled with insightful presentations at the Palmetto Goodwill Headquarters. This gathering was specifically designed to support the Coast Guard’s Executive Transition Assistance Program (ETAP), which plays a critical role in assisting senior officers and senior enlisted military personnel as they navigate the often-daunting transition from military service to civilian life.
Many of the service members attending this event have spent over 20 years of dedicated service to our country and now face the significant challenge of adapting to new civilian roles. Events like this one are instrumental in easing their transition and providing them with the necessary tools for success. The support provided during this event reached veterans from Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, ensuring that they were equipped with valuable resources and information.
During the event, 50 senior service members were treated to an engaging lineup of dynamic speakers from MUSC, South Carolina Ports, The Citadel, Nucor, Palmetto Warrior Connect, Waffle House, Veterans Business Outreach Center, US Army Corps of Engineers and Serco, each offering a wealth of knowledge into the resources available for those seeking employment after their distinguished military careers. Several speakers highlighted the entrepreneurial pathways available for these veterans, imparting essential information for anyone considering starting their own business. Representatives from key local and state agencies, including SC DEW, the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Veterans Help Group and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families also contributed by sharing guidance and resources to support veterans looking to establish themselves in South Carolina.
After the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a signature networking event. This networking session provided service members with the chance to connect directly with influential industry leaders, facilitating meaningful conversations and opportunities for collaboration that could significantly impact their futures in the civilian workforce.
I would like to express my gratitude to our event sponsors, Pinnacle Financial Partners and Scientific Research Corporation. A special thank you goes to Palmetto Goodwill for hosting the Coast Guard’s Executive Transition Assistance Class throughout the week. Support from our sponsors is crucial for the Chamber’s Military Affairs initiatives.
