The Advocates: Metro Chamber Coalition Sets Legislative Priorities for 2024

Each year, before the legislative session begins in January, the Metro Chamber Coalition meets to discuss our legislative priorities. The Metro Chamber Coalition is made up of the Charleston Metro Chamber, Greenville Chamber, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Chamber and the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance. Working in partnership with other metro chambers across the state amplifies our voice in Columbia and ensures alignment on key legislation.

For the 2024 session, the Metro Chamber Coalition is prioritizing childcare, joint and several, energy, business climate and workforce.

Childcare

  • Seek solutions to expand the accessibility and affordability of childcare to ensure working parents may fully participate in the workforce.

Joint and Several

  • Re-institute joint and several protections for businesses to reasonably reflect fault in tort actions and improve the state’s insurance coverage climate.

Energy

  • Support legislation that ensures we have adequate energy generation and infrastructure to meet current and future demands.

Improve Business Climate

  • Support the rights of private businesses to make their own operating decisions and champion legislation that enhances competitiveness for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Workforce

  • Support legislation that addresses workforce barriers, education pipelines, and training, including apprenticeships.

In addition to our priority issues, we will continue to support legislation that relates to evergreen issues that our chambers consistently monitor.

Evergreen Issues

  • Workforce Housing
  • Transportation and Transit
  • Infrastructure
  • Pension Reform
  • Tourism Funding
  • Economic Development
  • Talent Attraction/Retention
  • Penalty Enhancements for Hate Crimes
  • Efficient and Business-Friendly Licensing and Permitting

We are appreciative of the partnership we share with Metro Chamber Coalition members and look forward to working with them to advance legislation that positively impacts the SC business community.
