2022 Lowcountry Diversity Leadership Awards

This recognition event honors both individuals and organizations that make diversity, equity and inclusion a strategic priority in policy and practice in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. To assist the Awards Selection Committee in considering your application, please complete all sections of the nomination form (as applicable). Self-nomination is permitted.

Defining Key Terms
When considering nominees for these awards, please take into account the ways in which a few key terms are used and what they signify.

  • Diversity describes any point at which people differ, encompassing a wide array of diversity dimensions including race, gender, sexual orientation, geographic origin, disability, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc.
  • Equity describes systemic and structural fairness and justice. In order to achieve equity, one must understand that diversity plays a role in the resources and opportunities needed to achieve an equal outcome.
  • Inclusion describes active policies that create welcoming environments for diverse people, especially individuals who have historically been marginalized or underrepresented.


Criteria
Nominations will be evaluated based on individual category descriptions and the overall criteria of:

  • Leadership: Nominees should exhibit a creative and innovative drive within their organization or community to advance diversity, equity and inclusion. This could be demonstrated through volunteer activities, program development, education/training or advocacy.
  • Impact: Measurable results, progress or improvement has occurred due to the nominee’s work and efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Sustainability: Nominees will have a proven track record or will have a viable plan to maintain/expand ongoing and future efforts as they relate to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Focus: The extent to which the work of the individual or the program is focused on marginalized and/or underrepresented people and communities.


Optional Supporting Evidence 
Applicants/Nominators may submit letters of support to be considered as part of the selection process. Nominators may collect letters of support from multiple individuals and copy and paste the text from them in the appropriate field below.
