U.S. Department of Education to Host Virtual Showcase with Pattison’s Academy

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Communications and
Outreach will host a virtual showcase featuring Pattison’s Academy on Monday, November 2, at 1:00 p.m. The session will be led by Laurie VanderPloeg, Director of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative
Services’ Office of Special Education Programs. Deputy Secretary of Education, Dr. Mitchell Zais, formerly South Carolina’s State Superintendent of Education, will also be delivering remarks.

Director VanderPloeg will host the showcase with Pattison’s Academy, a year-round K-12 public charter school for children with profound disabilities, located in Charleston, SC. Director VanderPloeg will hear about the planning, preparation and best practices the school implemented to safely reopen for students, as well as the community and school model for student success. She will engage with families, teachers, community and school leaders. Pattison’s Academy is an education and rehabilitation academy providing comprehensive, year-round programs to support children with disabilities and their families.
